OSI Group is a leading food provider globally with 65 premises in 17 countries and with such a massive market, it means that it has to have a reliable workforce which comprises of 20,000 employees. The company has come a long way before settling on its current brand. For starters, the group was put up by American immigrants who risked everything despite being in a foreign country. The founders saw an opportunity in the market due to the growing population of their race being the Germans and therefore decided to venture into the food business to satisfy the demand. OSI Group is a success story that began as a small retail meat market and butchers on the west side of Chicago in Oak Park, and it was opened by Kolschowsky. His initial idea was to serve the people of his community assuming that he knew their preferences and therefore offered them the best. The existence of a ready market saw the business flourish within ten years, and it became expanded to a wholesale business whereby operations were moved to Chicago Suburb, Maywood as well. In the year 1928 after another ten years, the business was rebranded to Otto & Sons which marked massive growth.
With this kind of development, OSI Group would find itself getting into partnership with another family business in the same field. MacDonald became the first to partner with the group after they agreed with two of the Otto brothers who agreed to supply ground beef for MacDonald. With time, the two companies became interdependent, and one could not do without the other. In the 1960s, there was a breakthrough in technology which made doing business easier and affordable for these partners and as well improved their relationship. By the end of twenty years after working with MacDonald, Otto & Sons transitioned to OSI Group, and this was meant to signify achievements over the years that totaled 75 since its inception as a family butcher shop. When it came time for the Otto sons to retire, they got into partnership with Sheldon Lavin who joined the company in 1975. Under the management of Sheldon Lavin, OSI Group expanded into other states and became a meat and food processing industry that is recognized worldwide. In the 1980s, he took over OSI Group after he bought an observation interest and since then, he has kept the company running smoothly and successfully.
